This game is a beautiful way to visualize just how powerful Turing machines can be, and just how creative you can get with a simple concept. I'm not going to spoil any of the later twists, since once you see them, you start to appreciate just how much you can do with a tape and some colours. It sounds simple - that's because it is! Your tasks range from "get rid of robots with any red on their tape" (seems simple), to "only accept robots whose tapes look like a sandwich" (sounds harder but doable) to "accept all robots, but put a blue in the middle of their tape" (aaaaagh!). Then, you either send robots into an accepting chute, or into a fiery incinerator of doom. and also read off, sending the robots down different paths depending on what symbols are on them. Each robot has a tape, which you can stamp symbols onto. You've got a grid that robots will get moved around on, mainly through conveyor belts. The premise is simple: this game is kind of a beginner's guide to Turing machines in disguise. Every new level feels like an absolute joy to be presented with, even if that joy is accompanied by a head-scratching "how the flip is that possible?" Without question! There's been a recent trend in games to take core mechanics, introduce a fun game loop, then completely screw with the rules until it feels like you're playing a different game. This is *easily* the best puzzle game I've played in years. (And hey, if you are - check out the original if you don't believe me when it comes to this game's addictiveness :D well worth the $ though, imo!) The dev also seems super responsive in the forums (apparently there's also a discord!) so I wouldn't be too worried if you are about early release games. While I will say I enjoyed the original UI and graphics (nostalgia?) I'm hoping this new look brings a great puzzler more into the spotlight. At times a simple zen puzzler, at times a tricky tinkerer for optimization fans, Manufactoria is a puzzle lover's dream. Unlike N though, this game tests your mind rather than your reflexes. The original flash version is one of my favorite Zachlikes, and much like beloved platformer N, this oldschool Flash classic is back for more \o/ If you know of the 'Zachlikes' genre and enjoy them, if you've played Spacechem and wanted more if you enjoy puzzles - do yourself a favor and buy this game.
